7 Best Horror Movies to Watch Stoned
Us (2019)
They say everyone has a doppelgänger, someone who looks like you. What if they turned out to not be the nicest of people?
The movie, Us, explores this idea. Adelaide Wilson and her family visit the beachfront home she grew up in as a child. Haunted by a traumatic experience from childhood, Adelaide becomes increasingly certain something bad is going to happen if they stay in the house any longer. Her deepest fears come true when four strangers in masks surround the home, forcing the Wilson family to fight for their lives. When the masks are removed, the family is shocked and terrified to discover each attacker looks exactly like each of them.
This movie is trippy in all the right ways, making it one of the best horror movies to watch stoned.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010)
It’s hard to find a good horror movie that embraces its silliness to the same masterful extent as Tucker and Dale vs Evil. In this movie, two scruffy-looking friends are on a forest vacation that becomes bloody when a group of college students thinks they are a pair of murderers. This gory movie serves up a special kind of comedy, and though it’s undeniably ridiculous, the movie is hilarious and is especially great to watch when stoned.
Friend Request (2016)
Do you know all of your Facebook friends? Like, actually know them? The movie, Friend Request, gives a word of caution about accepting just anyone’s friend request. Laura is a very popular college student who, as a way of being nice, accepts the friend request of social outcast Marina. After things get weird and Laura unfriends Marina, Marina takes her own life. Shortly thereafter, a highly disturbing video shows up on Laura’s page and her number of friends starts to quickly decline. When her close friends start to die, the scared Laura must find a way to stop what is happening before more people die.
Trick-or-Treat (2007)
For most people, Halloween is a fun holiday full of laughs and fun scares. For others, it’s a much darker day.
This horror movie is comprised of four individual stories that often overlap and share characters, most notably a mysterious Halloween goer named Sam. The plots are: A young couple is divided by Halloween; a school principle lives out a secret life as a serial killer; a group of college girls attends a Halloween party, where the virgin among them hopes to meet the right guy for her; a group of kids play a bad prank; an elderly hermit tries to ignore Halloween.
This is one of the best horror movies to watch when stoned, as the film masterfully captures the dark and spooky essence of Halloween. Turn off the lights to make things extra fun.
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986)
Honestly, every single movie in the Friday the 13th franchise is a great horror movie to watch when stoned. While the series features one of the most iconic horror characters ever created, it has a campiness to it that keeps the franchise from ever being too serious. While they’re all great horror movies, the best to watch while creating clouds is the best one – Jason Lives.
Many years ago, Tommy Jarvis killed Jason Vorhees, though the experience was traumatic enough to put him in a mental institution. To get closure, Tommy escapes and goes to the cemetery where Jason is buried, with the plan to dig up the corpse and cremate it. However, before this can happen, a mysterious electrical accident causes Jason to be resurrected and for the terror to start all over again.
This one is campy enough to keep the mood from getting too intense, but just scary enough to keep you hooked. Toke up.
Scream (1996)
Out of all of the titles on this list of the best horror movies to watch when stoned, Scream may just be the most suitable for your late-night smoke sesh. It’s not nearly as silly as movies like Tucker and Dale vs Evil, and it even has iconic scenes that are genuinely terrifying, but the movie remains fun and captures exactly what it’s like to be a teenager.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a better movie to accompany a night of friends, horror movies, and lots of weed than a slasher title that showcases an extended sequence of friends watching horror movies and getting turnt.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
This classic horror movie is a must-watch when stoned.
When Sally learns her grandfather’s grave might have been vandalized, she and her brother head out there with friends to check for damage. After taking a detour to the family’s old farmhouse, they have a run-in with a family of deranged, murderous outcasts. As the group is attacked by Leatherface and his chainsaw, the survivors must do everything they possibly can to get away.
This movie is scary, gory, and intriguing. It’s the perfect movie to scared by when smoking.

“Cabin in the woods” is the best stoner horror movie. Also honorable mention to “knights of badassdom” although that’s more of a horror comedy.
