Sometimes, a trip to the dispensary can create a ridiculous amount of pressure. Either you’re grabbing an eighth at a new spot and you’re curious, but afraid to look silly asking what exactly live rosin is. Or you’re treating your partner to some canna goodies and dreading the moment when you’re faced with a long, 15-page dispensary menu and given a huge decision to make.
The dispensary menu dilemma is the worst. You don’t want to look cheap, but you also aren’t exactly in the position to shell out $500 in one trip. You want something that will get you lit, but if you get a heavy sativa will you get paranoid? What if you’re tired of the same basic strains — is there something else that you can try?
Such good weed questions — especially if you’re going about them the right way and asking the right budtenders. See, budtenders shouldn’t be that snobby, know-it-all dude behind the counter with a superior smile playing across their face. No, no. Your budtender is your guide into the wonderful world of weed and asking questions of your budtender is the best way to start your journey.

8 Questions to Ask Your Budtender
1. I recently smoked [blank] and I loved it. Do you have anything else like it?
By mentioning a specific product (Mama J’s Golden Pineapple) or even a broad category (a grape indica) is far more useful than just giving a description of the strain. You and your budtender may have very different ideas about what “dank” means, for instance.
2. What’s your favorite product?
A lot of budtenders visibly brighten when asked what new or special product they recommend. Note, this is not the same as asking about what’s the best, the most expensive, or even the rarest. What you’re looking for is the Black Diamond strain you would have never known about or the relatively obscure sativa hybrid you would have skipped over if left to browse the menu on your own. This is one of the best ways to discover a new favorite — find out the budtender favorites.

3. I’ve been curious about [blank]. What product should I try?
Whether you’re new to vaping or baffled by concentrates, this question lets your budtender know you want to try something you’ve never had before and are looking for a beginner-friendly introduction.
4. What’s your newest product?
With new cannabis brands and products coming out every month in this busy industry, there are always new items being added to dispensary shelves. Ask your budtender about what’s new or unique, so you can stay updated on the latest cannabis trends and try interesting products, such as the Major drinks.
5. Can you tell me some of your favorite strains under [price]?
Budtenders don’t always go around smoking the most expensive, rarest strains in real life; they go for the deals. If the budtender has recently been stoked by a great value, this is your chance to get an insider secret. There may even be a special deal going on that day as well, adding to your savings even more.
6. What are you most excited about on the menu right now?
The surefire way to score an amazing strain is also one of the easiest: Make it personal when you talk to the budtender. Budtenders are constantly introduced to strains and products from all over the state. So, what would they choose if they could pick anything on the menu right now?
7. I’m having a smoke sesh with friends. What would you recommend?
Having some parameters helps the budtender narrow down selections. Having a smoke sesh with friends? The budtender will likely point you toward a sativa hybrid that encourages socialization and brings on euphoria and light energy.
8. How do I use this product?
If you are unsure of how to use a certain product, ask! Your budtender can give you advice and first-hand knowledge on the products in the dispensary. 3 Questions Your Budtender Would Rather You Not Ask
1. Which of these strains has the highest THC?
This is a popular question budtenders receive, and it does sound like a good question that is guaranteed to get you lit. However, just asking for the highest THC won’t really grant you the experience you’re looking for. Instead, describe to your budtender the effects you want, such as feeling euphoric and energetic or feeling relaxed and stoney. The budtender can then help pair you up with a product that will address your individual needs and preferences. For example, if you want a morning burst of energy, they can help you find the right sativa or sativa hybrid.
2. Is this weed any good?
If a strain is on the menu, it’s going to be good. Chances are, the dispensary won’t offer “bad” weed to mislead the unsuspecting customers. Instead, try asking about what makes a certain strain or product special.
3. Isn’t this a bad brand?
A good dispensary isn’t going to carry “bad” brands. And, brands aren’t good or bad, per se — they’re just different. Some brands do things differently than others, but great producers still make great products.
